Director visits Cowra Public School

Director of Educational Leadership Dr. David Lloyd was surprise visitor to Cowra Public School last week to see firsthand how students are faring in class.

While at Cowra Public School, Dr. Lloyd spent time with students and staff whilst discussing the school's challenges and celebrations of which there have been many in 2024.

Dr. Lloyd also spent time with Mrs Lewis, one of the CPS staff, to discuss the school's Strategic Improvement Plan and the progress the school has made implementing the recommendations from that plan in 2024.

A highlight of the visit no doubt was watching Mrs Gibson teach a Maths lesson and plans are already in place for Dr. Lloyd to return in Term 4.

The Director's visit comes on the back of last month's NAPLAN results.

The NAPLAN National Results provide nationally comparable data on the 2024 national and state/territory results for each test domain and year level assessed, and for each level by gender, Indigenous status and language background other than English.

NAPLAN was successfully undertaken in schools across the country in March 2024. A record 4.4 million online tests were submitted by almost 1.3 million students in 9,431 campuses and schools across Australia.

Latest findings from the NAPLAN National Results released by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) show that results at a national level were similar to the results in 2023.

The data shows that while there were small increases and decreases across domains and year levels, overall, the results were broadly stable. On average, across all year levels in numeracy, reading and writing, approximately two-thirds of students meet “challenging but reasonable” expectations.

Nationally, NAPLAN participation rates have held steady, increasing on the 2023 average by 0.1 percentage points across all years and domains to 93.4%.
