Building fitness with the B grad soccer side

By Cara Kemp

The B Grade soccer team has officially commenced its preseason training.

Coach Adam Gambrill is satisfied with the strong turnout and high energy levels among the players.

Adam noted that the team appears eager to work hard for a successful season, setting a positive tone from the first session.

The primary focus for the preseason period is building a solid fitness foundation.

“We want to establish an extreme base level of fitness first,” Adam said.

“Once we have that, we can work on our playing style, positioning, teamwork, and all the elements that will help us perform well throughout the season.”

He emphasised that getting fitness levels up early will provide the players with a solid platform for tactical development as they progress through training.

Brandon Dickerson was highlighted among the squad as a standout performer in the opening session.

Adam was particularly impressed with his work rate and commitment, noting that his strong performance set an excellent example for the rest of the team.

However, Adam expects more players to step up as preseason continues and fitness improves.

While it’s still early to pinpoint significant challenges, Adam is mindful of the risk of injuries throughout the season.

“Injuries are always a challenge,” he said.

“But I think if we can focus on having a strong preseason and ensuring everyone is in top condition before the season kicks off, we can help prevent many of those issues.”

Injury prevention will be a key consideration in the team's training program, ensuring players are physically prepared for competition demands.

Beyond fitness and tactics, Adam also fosters a strong club culture.

“There’s already a great level of energy within the group, and everyone is keen to rip in and have a great season,” he said.

“But for me, it’s just as important that we enjoy our football, both on and off the field.”

A positive team environment and encouraging social engagement within the club are priorities for Adam, who believes a united and motivated team will naturally perform better on the pitch.
