Two local accommodation providers have been recognised for their excellence and service to travellers.
Cowra’s Econo Lodge Alabaster was awarded the Choice Hotel’s Gold Award in the Asia-Pacific region, with Canowindra’s Blue Jacket Motel awarded a booking.com 2025 Traveller Review Award.
Both properties received special recognition for their work renovating, restoring and updating rooms, to draw more travellers to the Cowra and Cabonne shires.

“It’s definitely better to be at the top of the pack than at the bottom,” said Ian McLaren, Co-Owner of Econo Lodge Alabaster, along with wife Agnes.

“We never expect to win an award – we just go out to do our best every day and try to give our guests the best possible premium economy experience,” Ian McClaren, Co-Owner of Econo Lodge Alabaster said.
“We go out of our way to follow up with guests to see where we can improve. I believe if you take that seriously, the awards take care of themselves.”
Mr McLaren operates the lodge with wife Agnes, but hospitality clearly runs in the family: their son Duncan was also awarded gold for his Econo Lodge Border Getaway in Wodonga, Victoria.
Staff at the Blue Jacket Motel shared a special thank you to guests for their reviews, bumping the property up to an average 9.4/10 score online.
