Chris Miller, a seasoned player and former captain of the Cowra Eagles, has stepped into a new role as coach for the 2nd Grade team.
Having played over 100 games for the Eagles, reaching the milestone in 2021, Chris is now transitioning from player to mentor, bringing his experience and passion for rugby to the coaching area.
This marks Chris’s first coaching role with the club, and he aims to build on the team’s success from last season.
“This is the first coaching sort of role in my next step, transitioning away from player into coaching,” Chris shared.
“I’m giving back to the rugby community that’s given me so much.”

Chris is focused on fitness and conditioning as a foundation for the team’s development.
“We haven't really had a training session yet, so to know what our strengths are isn’t front of mind at the minute,” Chris said.
“It’s more about conditioning and fitness and then building upon our strengths as the season progresses.”
One of the challenges Chris anticipates is maintaining team numbers during the colder winter months.
“It’s easy when it’s 30-degree weather and fine, but those June, July nights can be tough,” he noted.
“Numbers when it really counts in the depths of winter will be the biggest challenge.”
Chris’s coaching philosophy is centered on personal growth, believing that improving the individual will translate to better performance on the field.
“Better people make better players,” Chris emphasised.
“My ethos is about helping players understand their game and themselves, developing them as individuals.”
Looking ahead, Chris is excited about fostering a unified approach within the club.
“I can’t wait to work with the group,” he said.
“Especially with the first grade and women’s coaches, I’m looking forward to a strong one-club approach.”
