Charlie Chittick places ninth at Nationals

Gooloogong Public School's Charlie Chittick has had a great end to the sporting year in 2024, breaking into the top 10 in Australia in Discus on November 29 at the National Athletics Championships in Sydney.

Placing ninth overall with a throw of 27.73 metres, Charlie said it feels pretty good to place in the top ten at a national level.

To qualify for the School Sport Australia Primary School Nationals, Charlie had to do all the other carnivals first, claiming several new records in the process.

At the small schools carnival he recorded a throw of 35.31m, setting a new record.

At the Cowra District Carnival he set a new record there with his 34.66m throw, and set a new record at the Western region Carnvail with his 31.30m throw.

Charlie claimed silver at the NSW PSSA State Carnival with his 34.46mthrow, which qualified him for the Nationals.

Throughout these carnivals, Charlie competed in the JNR Boys Discus (8,9,10s), but to compete at Nationals he had to be turning 10 in 2024.

Charlie's recorded personal best throw, which was not made during these carnivals is 35.81m.

As part of his training, Charlie undertakes discus training at least once a week with either his coach, Ernie Shankelton or on his own, with his training frequency increasing when he is preparing for a big competition.

Charlie said he first got interested in discus when he found out he was pretty good at it when he started Cowra Little Athletics at the age of 6.
