8 weeks of fitness at the Cowra Blues

The Cowra Blues have kicked off an exciting new initiative to enhance fitness levels among current players and attract new talent to the club.

The eight-week fitness challenge, which focuses on AFL-related fitness tasks, is open to anyone, whether seasoned athletes or newcomers.

The club president, Jack Stott, shared the challenge's goal of " attracting more talent and building on the fitness levels of the current talent.”

“Anyone can participate.”

“So we're putting out to potential players, but anybody at all, if you want to come and join, you more than welcome to."

The challenge is designed around AFL-related fitness tasks, which focus on improving strength, speed, and agility, key factors contributing to success both on and off the field.

While the exercises do not involve ball work, they target essential AFL aspects requiring muscular fitness.

“It’s hard fitness-based tasks all based around AFL skills that come from it,” Jack said.

“So no ball work, but parts of the AFL game that require the fitness we're going to target.”

“Particularly within the football club, just getting the overall strength up of players, speed and agility.”

“They’re the three main contributing factors that simultaneously come into everything and even into everyday life.”

The challenge also offers a chance to win a six-month gym membership based on improvements in fitness metrics such as push-ups, sit-ups, and sprint times.

Participants recorded their baseline fitness levels at the beginning of the challenge, and at the end, those measurements were retaken to track progress.

“Last night's session was very strenuous, and by the last tas,k everybody was pretty exhausted, but they were all having a good laugh at the same time,” Jack said. “Although we call it a fitness challenge, it’s a bonding time for us all.”

“It gets everybody together, has fun, and meets the requirements that the sport also needs.”

“That’s the whole real focus of it.”

The challenge has already proven successful, with participants enjoying the physical demands while building team spirit.

The event, with an entry fee of just $10, is an excellent opportunity for current and potential players to improve their fitness.
