Chris Miller, coach of the 2nd Grade Men’s team, shared his reflections on the start of preseason training for 2025.
With a promising turnout and an encouraging attitude among players, the team has laid a strong foundation for the upcoming season.
Chris highlighted the enthusiasm and mindset of the players as a key factor in their early progress.
“It’s only day one, so I haven’t seen too much regarding skill sets, but there’s an extremely positive attitude with the first couple of sessions,” he noted.
“That’s half the battle, your head game. Going forward with that attitude, that’s extremely easy to work with.”

The initial session saw over 30 attendees across all grades, including the women’s team.
“It was quite promising, which was good,” Chris said.
“There was upward of 30-odd people across both grades and women as well. So that’s great, very promising.”
The team’s preseason training will prioritise fundamental skills and physical fitness during the first two months.
“The first sort of month or two is just going to be getting the basics right,” Chris explained.
“Just little sort of skill sets and obviously the physical conditioning of the players is right up there.”
Chris emphasised the importance of fitness for decision-making on the field.
“A fit body goes a long way to having a fit mind. Under fatigue, if you’re fit within your body, you’re going to make good choices going forward on the field,” he said.
While no new players have joined the team yet, Chris expects a few overseas players to arrive in late January or early February.
“We’re waiting on a few overseas players,” he said.
“There’s been a few that came to our meet-and-greet before Christmas and rolled up in our first couple of sessions, but there’s no new faces as of yet.”
With fitness and fundamental skills at the forefront, and a positive team atmosphere already established, the 2nd Grade Men’s team is off to a promising start for the 2025 season.
“It’s just business as usual at the minute,” Chris said.
