Magpies president reflects on the 2024 season

The Cowra Magpies came close to completing an undefeated season in the 2024 Woodbridge Cup, showcasing talent and the determination to prove themselves in a new competition.

While they ultimately fell just short, the season was marked by significant achievements and lessons learned.

Club President Bruce Wallace reflected on the highs and lows of the season.

"Going through the season undefeated and winning the minor premiership was a huge achievement for the club," Wallace said.

He acknowledged the challenges the team faced toward the end of the season.

"Injuries played a big factor late in the year for us along with our discipline, which at times was very poor."

Despite these setbacks, the Magpies boasted standout performances from key players.

Wallace praised the efforts of Luke Kinsley, who was named the best player in the competition, saying, "We had some great players with us this year, notably our 9 in Luke Kinsley."

He also highlighted the contributions of other players, saying, "Chris Miller was a great asset to us; he just got better each game he played. Our half-back Ricky was a great leader."

Wallace expressed pride in the team’s efforts throughout the season.

"I couldn't be happier for the effort the whole team put in," he said.

Looking ahead, he is optimistic about the club’s prospects with returning players and new signings.

"We've got some quality players returning from injuries suffered in the 2023 season, which will be great for the club, along with some new signings."

Discipline remains a key focus for the 2025 season.

Wallace emphasised its importance, stating, "Our discipline is something that has to be better in 2025—it’s as simple as that."

He added, "As I said before, our discipline is the key to our success. We’ve got the talent right across the park to be very successful consistently if we get our discipline sorted."

The club is also planning events throughout the year to engage the community and build on their strong momentum.
