Melissa Prescott has donated 36k to the community

Melissa Prescott, the figure behind Daffy’s Wise Words, has made a significant impact on the Cowra community by raising and donating over $36,300 to local businesses and charities.

Her dedication to giving back embodies the legacy of her late grandmother, affectionately known as Daffy, whose values and kindness continue to inspire Melissa’s charitable efforts.

The funds were raised through the sale of Daffy’s Wise Words merchandise, including stubby holders and lapel pins. Each donation reflects a heartfelt connection to causes that were important to Daffy, ensuring her compassionate spirit lives on.

A generous portion of the funds, $9,000, was donated to the Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre (CINC) to install shade sails for their Youth Involvement Program.

Melissa explained the personal motivation behind this donation.

“Daffy was a victim of domestic violence when she was younger, and she loved charities that help women in the same position. She also believed in helping our youth to learn life skills,” Melissa said.

Melissa’s second donation, $4,000, was made to Neuroblastoma Australia, an organisation supporting children with cancer.

“Daffy loved children and babies and was always grateful that her daughter, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren lived a healthy life, without any major medical illnesses,” Melissa said.

Another significant contribution of $5,700 went to Ronald McDonald House, which provides emergency accommodation for families with seriously ill children.

“Daffy was grateful that none of her family ever needed to use Ronald McDonald House, and she loved helping families in need of emergency accommodation,” Melissa said.

Melissa’s largest donation of $12,000 funded the purchase of four defibrillators, placed at Nurture One Childcare Centre, Cowra Public School, Cowra High School, and the caravan park on Sydney Road.

“I know that Daffy would be over the moon about being able to supply defibrillators to these locations,” Melissa said, highlighting the importance of providing life-saving equipment to the community.

An additional $5,000 was donated to Cowra Community Chest, an organisation that assists residents in accessing crucial medical care.

“Daffy believed that no one should go without vital medical care or treatment because they do not have the money, especially the elderly,” Melissa said.

Finally, Melissa contributed $600 to the Cancer Council, a cause that resonated deeply with her grandmother. “Daffy would often say that she wished there was a cure for cancer,” Melissa said.

Melissa’s unwavering commitment to the Cowra community ensures Daffy’s values of kindness and generosity continue to make a lasting impact.

Her thoughtful donations support diverse causes, from youth development and healthcare to emergency aid and cancer research.

Through Daffy’s Wise Words, Melissa not only honours her grandmother’s memory but also sets an inspiring example of how one person’s dedication can truly make a difference.
