Many a punter would've had the kitchen sink on Peter Kirwan to go all the way and claim the A Grade Cowra Men's Club Championships but the wily veteran won't even be in the final after he was beaten by Patrick Edenborough last weekend in a cracking matchplay semi-final. Kirwan, for all his experience, couldn't reel in Edenborough, who will now take on Nicky Basson after he triumphed over Han Kang in the other A Grade semi-final. The finale will tee off this Sunday September 8 at 8:30am at Cowra Golf Club.
In B Grade, Ben Colby won by forfeit from Adam Rogers in one semi-final while John Jensen got the nod over Simon Ryan in the other. Colby, who has been in good recent form, will now face Jensen in an eye-watering contest this Sunday as well in what shapes as the pick of the matches.
Jeff Marks got the chocolates over David Thomas in one C Grade semi, while Matt Devlin won the Battle of the Matts, disposing of Mathew Dun to earn a grand final berth this weekend as well. Devlin will have his work cut out against Marks in what will also be a keenly fought contest though his form suggests it won't be easy for either player.
No matter who is anointed Cowra Club Champions for 2024, there's no doubt that the winners will have had to play well to earn it!
