Dancers attend corroboree

The Wagambirra Dancers from Cowra High School were invited by the Bathurst Elders from the Wiradyuri Traditional Owners Corporation to participate in the Dhuluny Corroboree on August 14, 2024 on top of Wahluu Mountain.

This significant event marks the 200-year anniversary to the day since the declaration of Martial Law.

Many Aboriginal dance groups near and far came together despite the morning rain, with students from both Cowra High School and Cowra Public taking part in the historic event, alongside many Elders and community commemorating the resilience and strength of Wiradjuri people.

Duluny is the Wiradjuri word for truth.

An on-country experience that supported Koori students embracing their culture and pride, honouring the warrior Windradyne and paying respects to the men, women and children in the Bathurst Wars.

Girls from Wagambirra participated in this culturally significant corroboree using Galari dances, each representing their school and community thanks to Isabel Coe, Wiradjuri Language teacher Erin Lambshead, Ashleigh Elbourne and all involved allowing a wonderful cultural experience.
