Lauren Wilson will help lead the Magpies Womens to victory.

The Cowra Magpies have announced Lauren Wilson as the captain of their Senior Women’s team for the 2025 Woodbridge Cup season.

A well known player with extensive experience, Lauren has been chosen not just for her skills on the field but for her leadership, consistency, and alignment with the club’s vision of fostering a strong community and family-oriented culture.

Coach Greg Garlick described Lauren as an ideal candidate for the role, citing her deep understanding of the team’s culture and her pivotal role as a half-back.

“She knows the girls and has a great understanding of the culture we’re building here,” Garlick said.

“Her position as half-back places her right in the heart of the action, and she has the ability to guide the team from this controlling position.”

Lauren’s leadership style is rooted in a hardworking and positive attitude.

Garlick praised her ability to remain composed during both triumphs and challenges.

“The culture we’re trying to build with Lauren is one of resilience and class—staying calm in tough moments and focused during the good ones,” he said.

“She’s incredibly level-headed and ensures the team remains grounded, redirecting them when needed.”

According to the club, her performance on the field speaks for itself.

Garlick highlighted Lauren’s consistency as a standout quality.

“Lauren is always on the ball,” he said.

“She knows exactly what needs to be done and executes it flawlessly, regardless of the circumstances—be it the opposition, the referee, or even a tough call.

“She just gets on with the job, and that’s a trait every captain should have.”

In addition to her on-field persona, Lauren embodies the club’s broader mission of fostering a family-oriented and community-driven culture.

“She’s more than just a football player,” Garlick said.

“Lauren is actively involved in the community, which is a big part of what we’re trying to do as a club.

“We want to go beyond football and make a real impact in Cowra, and Lauren exemplifies that perfectly.”

Lauren’s strong relationships with her teammates further proves her leadership abilities.

“She understands what I’m looking for as a coach and has built fantastic relationships with the entire team,” Garlick shared.

“Her ability to connect with and inspire others is invaluable, and her actions consistently set the standard for everyone else.”

The Magpies are entering the 2025 season with high hopes, and Lauren as captain is going to be seen as a significant step forward.

“She’s not just a great player but also a great person,” Garlick said.

“Her leadership will undoubtedly push the team to new heights while reinforcing the values we hold dear as a club.”
