Cowra Magpies have full numbers during preseason training

The Cowra Magpies senior men’s team is gearing up for a promising 2025 season under the guidance of coach Phil Ingram.

With strong attendance at preseason training sessions, the players have shown a commitment to both improving their skills and fostering a supportive team environment.

Phil noted the positive dynamic within the group, highlighting how players are enjoying each other’s company while also pushing one another to improve.

“The boys are all enjoying each other’s company,” he said.

“We had a bit of a training session late last year just to get together and stay in touch.

“The turnout has been really good so far, and hopefully, we’ll see a few more boys join us as we go.”

The focus for the preseason is on team bonding, improving from last year’s performance, and ensuring players are committed to playing for each other.

“We’re trying to get a little bit better than we were last year,” Phil explained.

“Team bonding is key—when you’re willing to turn up and play for each other, that goes a long way to winning games and helping each other out in defense.

“The boys are really buying into that mindset.”

Training sessions have struck a balance between camaraderie and focus, with team leaders stepping up to ensure discipline during key moments.

“When we need to be serious, the leaders are pulling the reins on the boys and making them switch on to get through the drills and fitness work,” Phil said.

The competition for positions within the squad has also been a standout feature of the preseason.

“It’s a bit of a headache for me, with the numbers we have, but it’s great to see players competing for spots,” he added.

“That competition creates a strong atmosphere where everyone is turning up, training hard, and playing for their teammates.”

Phil is optimistic about the team’s steady improvement, noting the players’ dedication and commitment to showing up each week.

“We’re improving every week, and the boys keep turning up.

“It’s a really strong side, and I’m excited to see what we can achieve this season,” he said.
