Cowra Girls Soccer team claims minor premiership

The Cowra Girls Soccer team is bounding towards grand final glory after claiming the minor premiership over the weekend in another comprehensive display.

It is something many have come to expect from the girls but they remain firmly present and focused on the now and major semi-final first.,

"A massive shout out to our girls who ended an amazing season with an awesome win," said Courtney Gambrill.

"We played an understrength CSU Yellow team who were playing their third game within a week, so we really take our hats of to those girls for still showing up for our game.

"It was a herculean effort!"

Despite the sentiment, Cowra has their eyes on a bigger prize - the grand final trophy!

"I can’t express how proud I am of this team," said Gambrill.

"I put this team together with little to no expectations of how we would go in the comp.

"There has not been a women’s team in Cowra for five years and I was happy to even just get a team together."

And what a team it is!

"I ended up getting 16 girls and with the help of our two awesome managers Mitchell Thompson and Lucas Hayes. Since then we have secured the minor premiership and gone undefeated through the whole 18 rounds of the regular season! It's amazing!"

Cowra ended the regular seasonon 72 points (16 points above second place) and a 97 goal difference (with only nine goals scored against all the girls all season).

"We now move into the finals securing a major-semi this Saturday.

"If we win this weekend we get a week’s break and are straight into the Grand Final on September 21st but if we lose we will have a second chance game played on 14th September," said Courntey.

"This is such an exciting time for women’s soccer in Cowra. I am hoping this might entice more girls to get involved next year!"

Go get 'em girls!
