When Cassi Papadimitrious was nominated against the best of the best from Sydney and the coast in the Australian Women’s Small Business Awards back in June for her popular eatery Kendal Street Cafe she didn’t expect to win. In fact, if not for a supportive push from friends and colleagues she wouldn’t have even known to nominate.
“Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t do this for the glory - I do it because I love the business and my staff,” said Cassi, who has owned the successful establishment for seven years.
“I was in the bathroom when they read out the winner so I missed that too and my supervisor Tayah Burns accepted it!
“We had a bit of a laugh though and that’s what it’s all about.”
The mum of four works hard but also ensures she doesn’t take things too seriously. It’s her sense of humour and resilience she claims have helped her get this far and navigate tough times both personally and in business.

“I try to teach my children the same disciplines and balance,” she said.
“It’s important to be focused with goals but also present.”
And what’s next for this female entrepreneur?
“Travel and real estate,” Cassi said.
“Living life!
"And great food of course!"
