The Canowindra Tigers had a standout 2024 season, marked by significant improvement, professionalism, and enjoyment among players, ultimately culminating in a grand final appearance.
Coach Andrew Pull expressed pride in his team’s efforts and their ability to surprise opponents with their skill and determination.
“The improvement from the start of the year to the end of the year, the professionalism of all the players, and the amount of fun they seemed to have were incredible,” Andrew said.
“They all got along, were smiling, and were competitive while really enjoying the game. That culminated in a grand final appearance, which made it a really nice year.”
The Tigers earned a reputation as the “surprise packet” of the competition in 2024, catching opponents off guard with their talent and work ethic.
“A lot of opposition clubs didn’t realize how good the Canowindra girls were going to be,” Andrew said.
“I certainly knew, and our captain and some players knew, but we got the jump on a lot of teams and secured wins because of that.”
As the team looks ahead to the 2025 season, Andrew anticipates tougher competition as their success will now be well-known among rivals.
“People are going to be expecting us to be good, and they’ll be lifting every week to take us on,” he said.
The Tigers are currently on a well-deserved break, with plans to reconvene for their first training session and team meeting on January 28.
“We decided to give everyone a good break because football is pretty competitive, and you need to switch off when you get the opportunity,” Andrew said.
“At that meeting, we’ll talk about expectations for the season, my goals as a coach, and the players’ personal goals.”
Andrew is also looking forward to integrating new players into the team while maintaining the competitive spirit that defined their 2024 campaign.
“Every year, you lose a few players and pick up a few players,” he said.
“I’m excited to bring in some new faces, their enthusiasm, and to get them up to speed with the rest of the team.”
