Voting in this election is an opportunity to determine 9 representatives who form the elected body that governs Council.

The Cabonne Shire Council local government elections will be a significant event for shaping the town’s future, with pre polling already open, residents are invited to shape the future of the council.

Those members selected for Council will then determine the position of Mayor.

Candidates will be elected based on their platforms, which address a range of local issues such as infrastructure, community services, and economic development.

Election Day: Scheduled for is the 14th of September, when registered voters will cast their ballots. Please check the AEC website at the end of this article to find your nearest polling location.

Counting and Results: Ballot counting will take place on the 14th of September, with results expected to be announced the same evening or shortly thereafter.

How to Vote

Eligibility: To vote in the Canowindra local government elections, you must be a registered voter in the local government area.

Voting Options:

- In-Person Voting: Polling stations will be set up throughout the electorate on election day. Check the local council website for your nearest polling station.

- Pre-Poll Voting: Available for those who will be away on election day. Check the council website for -poll locations and dates.

The 2024 election features a range of candidates, each with distinct platforms. Taken from the Candidate Information submitted by themselves where available, Candidate platforms are listed below:

Guinevere Mae Dickie (Manildra)

Peter John Batten: (Garra) A councillor for two terms, Mr Batten says the experience has given him “a good understanding of the challenges faced by Cabonne” and prepared to achieve the objectives laid out in the Long Term Financial Plan. “Challenges include the need for improved roads, community infrastructure as well as we continue to recover from the November 2022 flood event, improving water security for Molong, Cumnock and Yeoval.

Marlene Joyce Nash (Manildra): “I’m a team player but will stand on my own if needed. As I have had many years as a business owner I know complex issues that may arise, I believe I bring the beliefs and needs of our communities to the table with firmness in my deliberations.”

Graeme Andrew Rawson (Nashdale) The current councillor and Chair of Central Tablelands Water says “I have focused on providing a safe secure and prosperous Cabonne. I have advocated strongly for a better deal from State and Federal governments to get people back on their feet after disasters and for appropriate financial support to repair damage to our road and bridge network.”

He adds, “I currently graze cattle at my property in Nashdale/Borenore. I’m on the Committee for the Australian National Field Days and have extensive scientific experience in soil and landscape science, climate change and water security and will strive to ensure that our natural environment, agriculture and cultural heritage is protected and valued.”

Jamie Thomas Jones (Molong) says his key priorities are Funding for maintenance and upgrades to Cabonne’s road network, flood recovery, flood mitigation (with improved drainage and early warning systems), building new footpaths, upgrades to water and sewer infrastructure and support for community organisations and groups, tourism and economic development initiatives.

Kevin John Beatty (Molong) The retired police officer of 31 years service says his family has been raised in Molong, where he has lived since 1996. “I have a small farm and love everything rural. I have served on council for the previous eight years as Mayor. I am committed to the Cabonne flood recovery, continued road improvements and seeking further improvements to the Cabonne area. I am committed to the community.”

Jennifer Ann Weaver (Canowindra) - Elected to Cabonne Council in 1995-2008, re elected 2017-2024.

Kathryn Enid O’Ryan (Moorbel) – “As a second term councillor, I will commit to the completion of Council’s Strategic Plan, and aim to better our community through thoughtful and informed policymaking, collaborative problem solving and a focus on the issues that matter most to our community. Water security for our villages and towns, investing in critical infrastructure and working toward equitable access to housing services will be among my top priorities.”

Andrew Dean Pull (Canowindra)

Aaron John Pearson (Molong) – [As a] “longtime advocate for Cabonne Shire on issues such as mobile coverage, roads, flood security, and crime prevention. Dedication to Cabonne and its communities. I’ve an ability to work with others in achieving common goals, engage with political and media staff with the goal of better services for our area.”
