The lunch rush came to a screeching halt on Friday, following a police chase through some of Cowra's busiest streets.
New South Wales Police Highway Patrol, local police and undercover vehicles trawled the streets while residents shared concerns alleging dangerous driving along Lachlan Street, Binni Creek Road, Fitzroy Avenue and Vaux Street.
One mother shared online that her son, a learner driver, had allegedly been honked during the chase, with Highway Patrol close on the tail of the alleged driver.
"Took us a minute to get our bearings, my son definitely gets the reacting to hazards award today," she said.
A spokesperson for Chifley Police District confirmed the driver had been arrested following a chase that took police throughout the town.
"About 11.40am today (Friday 1 November 2024), officers attached to Chifley Police District were patrolling Fitzroy Avenue, Cowra, when they attempted to stop a purple Holden sedan," he said. "When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated."
"The pursuit continued through to Brisbane Avenue, where it was terminated after the purple sedan was located abandoned at a nearby residence. Following inquiries, police arrested a 27-year-old man near the area," the spokesperson said.
"He was taken to Cowra Police Station where he is assisting police with their inquiries."
