The winners of Cowra’s premiere bird photography competition have been announced, with twice the fun for the people’s choice awards.
Craig Grant and John Young were neck and neck in the popular vote, for their photos of a blue-faced honey eater and willy wagtail, respectively.
The popular bird photography competition saw entries from residents of all ages submit over a hundred images of native birds. From kookaburras to juvenile magpies, and plenty of parrot, up to $150 in prize money was available, along with boasting rights of being exhibited at the Cowra Library.
Larissa Hackett, Acting General Manager at Cowra Council said "The Archibird competition began in 2019, provides an interactive learning opportunity for all members of the community, ranging from kindergarten to elderly to get out and watch birds in their natural environment. The competition encourages participation no matter what age or skill base to enter either the photography competition or the colouring competitions for children in infants and primary schools. The Archibird competition sees community members connecting with nature through the arts and becoming aware of the importance of bird life in our ecosystems."
Ms Hackett encouraged future participants to join in the fun next year.
