Exercise enhances emergency skills

Emergency crews from across the region have spent a weekend training up, in an intensive mitigation exercise at Wyangala Dam, aimed at enhancing their firefighting and emergency response skills.

Teams engaged in a series of challenging scenarios designed to build expertise in critical areas such as problem-solving, firefighting techniques, and motor vehicle accident responses.

Key training elements included pumping exercises, overrun techniques for controlling fires, and 'protect and preserve scene' protocols.

Crews also focused on driver skill development, ensuring they are equipped to handle emergency vehicles in high-pressure situations.

Support came from north, with the Canobolas Support Brigade playing a vital role, managing the communications centre. By coordinating radio messages and talking staff through exercises, local brigades were able to better prepare for when emergencies strike.

Held in the picturesque setting of Wyangala Dam, the exercise not only showcased the commitment and teamwork of emergency service crews, but was a critically important opportunity for the mitigation teams to work together ahead of what is expected to be a busy fire season, leaving the crews ready to work closely together and with other services from the region.
