St Raphs students go the distance

As part of the Physical Activity component of the St Raphael’s Catholic School ‘Duke of Edinburgh Award’, nineteen Bronze, Silver & Gold participants have spent the past 13 weeks training for long distance running with their teacher Mr Andrew Phelan.

The program concluded with the students travelling to Dubbo to compete in the 5.3km Dingo Dash at the Dubbo Stampede Running Festival held at Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

Whilst the students were there to have fun they also achieved some great results with most of the students placing in the top 10 of their age/gender categories.

Laura Bennett was the highest placed student from St Raphael’s Catholic School finishing the race in 28:41, which placed her 3rd in the 15-16 Female category.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award participants from St Raphael’s Catholic School will now start to prepare themselves for a multi-day hike on the South Coast.
