With the Cowra AFL Blue set to kick off their season on May 3, the team is facing challenges in recruitment.
A trial match on March 15 will help test their readiness, as they continue searching for new players to boost their side.
Co-coach Emma Nobes admitted the team is still struggling to secure new members.
“We’re still trying to find people who want to join,” she said.
“We’re doing a trial match on March 15, so we’ll see how we go and what we need to do from there.”
So far, there have been no confirmed new signings, but younger players could step up to fill the gaps.
“I know there have been some younger ones, so we don’t know if they’ll form a junior team or play up with us,” Nobes said.
The team is also dealing with the loss of players from last season, with work and family commitments making it difficult for some to return.
Nobes acknowledged that participation often picks up closer to the season start.
“It’s normally like this,” she said.
“A lot of players don’t really care about training but love to come and play.”
“It’s hard with jobs and families as well.”
Despite these hurdles, key players such as Jason and Pat are expected to make an impact this season.
“Jason’s come back this year,” she said.
“He’s from the city somewhere, but he’s been pretty good when he can play.”
“Pat’s back again too.”
“He only played half the season last year before heading home, so it’ll be good to see how he’s grown.”
The team is also looking forward to competing against some of the league’s top sides, including the Bushies, last year’s grand finalists.
“I assume they’ll be at the top again, so it’ll be good to see how we go against them, it’ll be like a redo of the grand final,” Nobes said.
While the season remains uncertain for Cowra AFL Blue, the March 15 trial match will be a crucial moment in shaping the squad.
With just weeks to go before the first game, the club is hoping more players will commit and help them build a competitive team.
