Canowindra town clock to be replaced

Canowindra is set to have the town clock replaced and LED lighting installed at Canowindra Showgrounds after Cabonne Council approved the funding under its 2024/25 Village Enhancement Fund: at their ordinary monthly meeting on November 26.

Council approved $8,000 to go towards the the cost of LED lighting for the Team Penning area at the showground.

Council approved $18,150.00 for the purchase and installation of the Canowindra Town Clock.

The new clock is a Lithium Battery Clock, 900mm in diameter, movement with GPS, with double sided with hands dials and manufactured in Europe.

Canowindra Progress Association's Tom Beath said the current clock had been donated and installed by the Canowindra Lions Club a few decades ago, but hadn't worked for several years.

Mr Beath said they sought funding to replace it through Cabonne Council and it will be installed by January, 2025.

"Every town needs a clock, and the one there was always on the wrong time, the hands never moved. It needs replacing," he said.

The Canowindra Showgrounds will also be seeing upgrades with the installation of more LED lighting, particularly around the penning area.

Mr Beath said the team penning is growing every year and with the events getting bigger it means they go later into the evening.

Mr Beath said the LED lighting will be a big benefit, providing a safety improvement for the team penning and for users of Showground.
