Cabonne Shire's new council

After all the build up and campaigning, the NSW Local Government elections have come to a close in most LGAs across the state and Cabonne Shire Council is pleased to announce the results of the Local Government elections held on September 14, 2024.

The election saw a robust engagement from the community, with a total of 5,727 votes cast, including both formal and informal ballots.

It is the first election since the COVID pandemic that delayed the 2020 elections to 2021 which shortened the term for the last council.

Cabonne Council was established on 1 October 1977. It holds 10,274* electors and occupies an area of 6,025 square kilometres. This is an undivided council served by nine councillors including a Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Libby Oldham didn't recontest while Andrew Pearson now joins Cabonne Shire Council.

The election results are as follows with many familiar faces re-elected now for a third term since 2017:

Kevin Beatty (IND): 1,261 votes (24.10%)

Jamie Jones (IND): 590 votes (11.27%)

Marlene Nash (IND): 542 votes (10.36%)

Aaron Pearson (IND): 478 votes (9.13%)

Andrew Pull (IND): 475 votes (9.08%)

Andrew Rawson (IND): 400 votes (7.64%)

Kathryn O'Ryan: 449 votes (8.58%)

Peter Batten (IND): 464 votes (8.87%)

Jennifer Weaver (IND): 330 votes (6.31%)

Dickie Guinevere: 244 votes (4.66%)

The total number of formal votes counted was 5,233, with 494 votes classified as informal or other, representing 8.63% of the total vote.

Popular Molong identity and former Mayor, Kevin Beatty, had the highest number of votes, and led the field with 24.10% of the total vote, followed by Jamie Jones and Marlene Nash. This diverse array of candidates reflected the dynamic and engaged nature of the Cabonne local electorate. Both Canowindra locals (Weaver and Pull) return while sadly, one nominee had to miss out which was Dickie Guinevere.

Regardless, Cabonne will again be well represented with a cross section of councilors from across the region including Canowindra, Nashdale, Garra, Manildra and Moorbel.

A big congratulations to all candidates for their participation and to the community for their enthusiastic involvement in this electoral process. The results mark a significant moment for Cabonne Shire as they look forward to the continued development and growth of the region under the new leadership.
