Sakura Matsuri

The spring event of the season blossomed at the Cowra Japanese Gardens, with another successful Sakura Matsuri, Spring Cherry Blossom Festival.

An estimated 2400 thousand visitors travelled through the gates of the Cowra Japanese Gardens and Cultural Centre, according to Jo Baker Manager the centre.

Jo said highlights included a visit from Ambassador Suzuki & Acting Consul General Mr Yuichiro Nishida & Vice-Consul Mr Katsumi Shimmura

With particular thanks to Wadaiko Rindo Drummers, Sakura Choir, Cowra Vocal Ensemble, local dance group Torsion youth Choreographic Ensembel, Kumai Ryu Cowra, Aikido Club of Senshu University, Sumo Federation of Australia, Australian Kyudo Association (sword and archery), O’Hara School of Ikebana, Chado Urasenke Tankokai Sydney Association (traditional tea ceremony), Junko Howe (traditional Japanese Dance), Kintsugi Australia, Yoshito Ito Visual Artist & Ayukat Origami (Origami & Furoshiki) & Cath Duncan Bonsai and Eco Scarf Dyeing.

Also in attendance was the Japan Local Government Centre from Sydney, Cowra Tourism, the Embassy of Japan, and Kokora Heart Sewing.

Jo also said "Spring is our busiest time of the year and the garden is at its peak."

Visitors included Japan’s Ambassador to Australia, Suzuki Kazuhiro, who snapped a selfie under the cherry blossoms.

Others travelled from Canberra, Bathurst, Sydney and interstate, as well as from the USA to experience the 12.5 acres of the gardens, workshops and entertainment.
