A few kilometres west of Canowindra, Nyrang Creek RFS is being supported by a fundraiser held by Charlie Blomfield, raising funds to supply crucial equipment to support its mission of protecting life and property.
"Our local brigade is volunteer based, and relies on outside funding to perform a service that displays the best of Australian bush community values." Mr Blomfields GoFundMe says.
Whilst the RFS is overwhelmingly state funded, individual brigades regularly hold fundraisers to support operations and equipment needs.
The GofundMe aims to raise funds to build a shed to store RFS trucks and hold meetings, supply first aid kits, fire rakes, as well as a forward-looking infra red camera to spot still-burning fires in the ground, as well as a firebug to conduct controlled burns, the fundraiser's $16,000 goal still has some way to go - with $2,170 raised at time of writing since 20th of February.
Mr Blomfield's Boridgeree Farming is also donating $2 from every small bale of old season lucerne hay sold to the cause and will be asking local businesses, individuals and organisations for contributions.
