Cowra Ladies Probus report

CONTRIBUTED

Vice President Nerida opened our meeting in the absence our president, Margie. Five members were wished happy birthday for November.

Two new guests were introduced at Probus being Trish Graham and Teina Noble.

One of our members Bev Newell agreed to do a new segment introduced to Ladies Probus, 'Lady Behind the Badge,' telling us she was from Victor Harbour, has lived and travelled the world, also sailing through the Panama and Suez Canal. Certainly a well travelled lady. One of her occupations was being a typist in various offices as well as a clerk. Having no computers in those days, everything was typed on a manual typewriter, with copies made using carbon paper. Bev is certainly a 'Jill of all trades,' painting homes inside and out, and the joy of building a new brick home, as an owner builder. Volunteering with hot air balloons in Canowindra, mowing lawns and working on the farm, helping with the sheep, she also did a 12 month enrolled nurses course.

A little bit of trivia; Bev said at 16 she learned how to change a tyre. As a left handed lady, she knits right handed. Her husband Paul was a dancer, Bev learned how to do New Vogue, ballroom dancing. After retiring Bev took up golf, but after eight years gave up.

Marrying 26 years ago, they moved from Canowindra to Cowra 2 years ago.

Competition winners were:

1st Rosalie White

2nd Kaye Ellery.

We also had 10 question competition, on the Melbourne Cup. Our committee members, Nerida, Pam and Trish won with 6 correct answers.
