As the start of a monthly series, Canowindra Bowling Club will feature Central West musician Mat Cochran, who moved to London to pursue a full-time music career, has returned to Australia to settle down with his partner and reconnect with the local music scene. “I love being back in Australia. My partner and I have established roots in Bathurst, and performing in town and nearby areas is a refreshing change. Discovering what Australians love to hear keeps me on my toes and motivates me to deliver a fantastic live show each time I perform.”

Living in London opened many doors for Mat, allowing him to travel and perform across Europe and the UK. “London is a city that never sleeps, so there’s always an opportunity to showcase your music and get noticed.”

When asked about his musical influences, Mat cites his favorite classics from the 80s: “U2, INXS, Icehouse, Journey, Fleetwood Mac, Sting, Chic, Madonna, and The Police.” He particularly enjoys energising the crowd with tracks like “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman, “Free Fallin’” by Tom Petty, and some Bruce Springsteen with “I’m on Fire” or “Dancing in the Dark.”

Mat has also composed his own music, available on YouTube. “I’d describe my songs as a blend of my love for 80s music infused with dance elements, creating a synthwave/retro vibe.”
